
Glass Grove is a compact algae-growing system that makes biological experimentation easier to see, repeat, and understand. Instead of measuring results directly, it lets users shape conditions like light, airflow, and movement to explore how different environments influence growth.


Glass Grove centers on a sealed borosilicate glass vessel paired with a bead-blasted and anodized aluminum structure to increase durability for long term use. The system is curated and fully disassemblable, while the object stays easy to clean, upgrade, & reuse.


Light intensity, hue and culture agitation are labeled at discrete detents on a physical dial, encouraging repeatable experimentation. This allows users to observe how changes in environment shape growth behavior over time.
The glass bulb is sealed with a removable composite plug, with integrated sensors running to a pogo pin connector making assembly and research actions seamless.







The development of Glass Grove followed a phased material progression. A rough paper prototype established the initial footprint and geometric logic. An air-dry clay model allowed for rapid ergonomic testing and volumetric refinement.
In 2024 a high-fidelity resin composite assembly, exhibited at ICFF, resolves these iterations into a sealed, fully functional protoptype.
